This chapter is focused on an instructional sequence to enrich the listening and speaking vocabularies of young children. The words come from sophisticated language found in children's trade books or text.

Assignment: You will use what you have learned in this chapter to create a lesson for a week of vocabulary instruction. Select a book, story, or text. Decide which words you would like the children to learn. Create your lessons around the words you've chosen to use. Implement the activities in which children have to engage with the meanings of the words you have chosen prior to responding to the lesson.
